Abstract
“The power of data” naturally appears to be the dominant force within an information-based society. But what is power? And what exactly is data in this context? Data is no conscious entity and thus cannot exercise power. This article attempts to show how “the power of data” is nevertheless a valid concept before giving an overview on the enormous potential of data developing a life of its own with all its worrisome consequences.
