The power of music
Main Article Content
Abstract
The power of music unlocks through our sense of hearing. Hearing dissolves the distance between object and viewer, which cannot be overcome by seeing. Sound is not in front of us, it surrounds us; we are immersed in its effect. Hearing is not an act of reaction but rather a form of correspondence for composers, musicians and audiences alike. Music does not create nor express emotion, instead it persuasively moves and captures us, opening up a sui generis world. Music itself does not have an intention and thus allows us to experience the facticity of our relatedness to the world. That is the power of music.
