Abstract

The digital turn and its effects on people and their environment make a scientific and social discourse about the position of people in an ICT-dominated world necessary. In this sense, the article investigates whether and in what way previously valid fundamental constants of the human condition and the images of humans based on them are called into question through artificial intelligence and robotics. Based on the “insults of humankind” described by Sigmund Freud, the developments around the digital turn are categorized in terms of cultural history and examined in more detail as a “digital insult” of humans. The “digital insult” is reflected in a crisis full of opportunities, which encourages a rediscovering of the human condition in the digital age.
